It's been over 25 years that Gregg Stafford, trumpeter from New Orleans, has been making the trek up to the cold cold north to Toronto Ontario to hang with what he calls some of the most legit players around (Canada).
The annual visit was to celebrate Noonie and Cliff's Birthdays every November, as was tradition.
Mary Simpson had made it sure Gregg that would make it up to Toronto for the past 12+ years creating the New Orleans Stomp in 2008 to celebrate the very real Toronto/New Orleans Connection.
Cliff left us in 2003. Noonie left us in 2004. Mary left us in 2021.
Doug Simpson (yo bro) and family have taken up the task to continue what Mary set up for us.
The venue for this year is where things all started, really. Grossmans Tavern has been home to live music for well over 50 years and traditional, New Orleans style music, has been an enormous part of it's history.
Accompanying Gregg are a really great bunch of local musicians. I get to play as well.
Roberta Hunt - piano and awesomeness
Charlotte McAfee-Brunner - trombone
Toby Hughes - alto saxophone
Brian Sasaki - banjo
Colin Bray - bass
Chuck Clarke - drums
Because of limited capacity at Grossmans there will be two seatings for the Friday May 31 show, 6pm and 10pm.
YES THERE WILL BE A DANCE FLOOR!
We have worked hard with our team of logicians to provide not only clear sight-lines but also plenty room for dancing.
